The Magnolia Rug Story

Magnolia is a honey based rug adorned with branches teeming with magnolia flowers in shimmering viscose. It is one of 5 stunning designs from Wendy’s Orient Collection.

Magnolia

Magnolias are beautiful flowers associated with symbols of nobility, perseverance, dignity and love of nature. They are soft and subtle in colour, yet strong. They are seen as magnificent flowers of divine beauty that represent life force and perfection.

And so to this dreamy yet strong bedroom scheme…

The Magnolia Rug Story

Flora and fauna are the focus here with influence from the Orient in Magnolia. It’s a dreamy, feminine scheme which celebrates the beauty, the magic and the power of nature.

First up, the wallpaper.  We couldn’t find anything more fitting than this vibrant and lush celebration of flora in this design from House of Hackney. Inspired by William Morris and depicting feral flowers we thought it was a great starting point. It’s got a wild feel to it – the uncontrollable force of nature!

To stand up to such a strong wallpaper design we found the Hand-Carved Lotus Bed from Anthropologie. The bed head is an intricately carved design of lotus flowers in Mango Wood. Gorgeous! It would look fabulous against this wallpaper.

Add to this Cox & Cox’s Pin Tucked Velvet & Linen Quilt in Blush for sheer comfort and femininity.

It’s important to have seating in a bedroom. The bedroom should be a sanctuary. Somewhere to escape the modern world and technology, somewhere to rest. This handsome Birdbranch Stripe Sea Blue Chair from Timorous Beasties is perfect for this flora and fauna scheme, the branches and birds echoing the design in the rug. The colour is perfect too in that it picks out the blue of the bird perched on the Magnolia branches. This chair is a one-off and has already been sold but if you want something antique, vintage, personal to you and upholstered expertly in a choice of their fabric then head over to their furniture section on their website.

And should you have company or require a seat on which to throw off your clothes then how about this discreet Azucena Stool, in soft dusky pink velvet? This is a reproduction of the stool designed by Luigi Caccia Dominioni in 1963 and is available from The Apartment.  The fabric fits perfectly with the Cox & Cox quilt above and the gold base reflecting the golden honey tones in the rug.

With all these soft and dusky muted tones of yellow, pink and blue we felt we needed a punch of something stronger – and this Valence Small Chest of Drawers really stood out due to its rich teal colour, which again highlights the bird, and its elegant shape with natural wooden carved top. It is from Graham & Green and is a fusion of French & Oriental design so works well here.

And now for the lighting. Of course nothing can beat nature’s lighting but we can try our best. We loved this ornate Flower Wall Sconce in Burnish Gold. What better way to celebrate the flora in our scheme and to to marry in the honey golden base of the rug. It gives off a warm glow, perfect for evening ambience. For the main pendant we found Instagram favourite, the Luna Antique Beaded Chandelier which we like purely for its decorative appeal, both from Graham & Green.
