Our Own Special Love Story

Our Own Special Love Story

Inspired by the Tree of Life, which connects all forms of creation, and the concept of the Sacred Tree, the Tree of Knowledge, which are at the heart of many of the world’s mythologies, religions and philosophical beliefs, Love Birds has the importance of nature and our connection to it at her heart.

A sacred tree is considered to be worthy of spiritual respect or reverence and such trees appear throughout history in ancient Greek, Hindu, Celtic and Germanic mythologies. Certain trees continue to hold deep meaning today in countries such as Japan, where they are known as shinboku, and the Bodhi tree in India, which represents the journey to enlightenment that Buddhists seek.

The Beauty of Trees

Tree worship forms part of animism, the belief that objects, places, plants, animals, birds and natural phenomena all have a life force, and should be conserved and treated in a sustainable manner.

The tree is also a symbol of personal growth, strength and beauty. The branches of the Tree of Life strengthen and grow, just as we grow and develop when striving for greater knowledge, wisdom and new experiences throughout life.

Love is in the Air

Our Love Birds’ design features a beautiful, sun-dappled tree in the centre, gold-etched leaves shimmering against a colourful backdrop while the base is awash with bright foliage and flowers in full bloom. A pair of exotic pink and yellow love birds nestle at the heart of the design, while other equally radiant birds perch on branches and swoop through leaves. The imagery feels so alive you can almost hear the sound of leaves gently rustling and birds calling to each other.

‘Love Birds is also influenced by all three of our design stories - Joyous, Cultivate and Solace - which we talked about in our previous journal post, Looking Ahead,’ Wendy explains. ‘Each design strand from these stories is interlinked, and they all have joy, wellbeing and a connection with nature at their core.

Powerful Statement

‘A design featuring the Tree of Life has been on my ideas list for some time,’ Wendy says, ‘most likely because of her powerful symbolism across so many cultures. We really do love our trees and all that they represent, and our wonderful artisans create exquisite imagery that brings my ideas beautifully to life.

‘The colours for Love Birds came very easily; it made sense to me for her to be colourful and create a feeling of joy. I did play around with a lot of base colour options and admittedly did struggle to narrow it down to the lilac and green. I’m still not sure which is my favourite between the two, but both work really well as an uplifting backdrop to the colourful birds.’

"It is a design that requires you to slow down and take time to appreciate every detail, to allow the story to speak to your senses, allowing you to feel a connection and harmony with nature."
