Try before you buy - why our Sample Service is something to shout about

Choosing a Wendy Morrison rug is a very personal journey. Every design is unique and comes from the heart. Each rug is handcrafted by artisan makers, upholding the centuries-old traditions of weaving and rug-making. And every rug has its own unique story to tell.

Lots of love, care, time and skill go into the making of our rugs, and we want our customers to love them as much as we do. We also want to help every customer find the perfect rug for them – which is why we offer a Sample Service prior to purchase.

What is a Sample Service?

Our Sample Service gives customers the opportunity to ‘road test’ a smaller version of the rug they are planning to buy, to make sure they are completely happy with their chosen design. It is the chance to see how the rug will look and feel in their own home.

Seeing a sample in place allows customers to be sure the colours and pattern work in their new surroundings. It allows customers to consider the setting and surroundings, the light and positioning, rather than relying on guesswork or photographs. Trying out a sample is also incredibly useful to see how the rug works with other colours, wallpapers or fabrics in a room.

‘The sample service is particularly useful when it comes to our neutral designs,’ Wendy Morrison explains. ‘The light base can be difficult to get right on camera and it is important to get the neutrals right, especially if it is going to be used in a neutral space.

‘All colours vary considerably when viewed on the floor,’ she adds. ‘As different types of light fall from a number of directions, colours can change considerably. They also work differently when seen alongside other – particularly dominant – colours within a space, so it is really useful to be able to check how something will look in place.’

How does it work?

For a fee we can loan a 50 x 50cm sample of the chosen design (or designs, if more than one is required) to a customer. This amount is refunded once the sample has been returned to our Edinburgh office. We organise and pay for shipping to the customer and ask that they organise and pay for the return. The customer can have the sample for up to two weeks from the date it arrives with them.

The best possible result

Our Sample Service is available for any of our rug designs, but we strongly recommend using the service if customers are considering ordering a custom rug. (You can read all about our custom rugs here!)

We also particularly recommend the service if a preferred design has a neutral-coloured base, such as Leopard Palms Light, Eternity Light, Eternal Toile, Jardin de Orient Pink & Gold, Leopard Gold, Cranes in Trees and Tiger Florals. Neutrals can appear quite different in real life in comparison to any photographs of our rug designs.
