Wendy is currently designing her John Lewis AW/17 rug and is taking inspiration from Chinese Deco.
“I could not help be inspired by these. They were produced after the 1920s when experimentation began with vivid colours, generally made from wool and silk and had a lovely plushy and luxurious feel. Design elements include favourites of pictorial scenes, trees, clouds, mountains, dragons, birds and exotic flowers. Colours are lively: rich jewel tones of magenta, turquoise, ruby and violet. Delicious. These pieces are now considered invaluable. My aim is to attempt to make some of these gorgeous attributes accessible in an off the shelf rug.”
