How to care for your wallpaper

Wallpaper is transformative; it is one of the easiest ways to completely change the look and feel of a room. You can choose to surround yourself with colour and pattern, or create a feature wall or even use a single panel – or three, a lovely way to draw the eye – to create a focal point in a room. Whether you decide to hire a decorator or hang the wallpaper yourself, we advise you review our hanging instructions first.

Before you get started

It is important to note that our wallpaper is printed in batches, so very slight variations in colour can occur between batches. Therefore, we recommend ordering all the rolls you’ll need in one go. Before hanging this wallpaper, please check that all rolls are undamaged, batch numbers are the same and that the design and colours all match. Please refer to our deliveries and returns policy should you find any issues with your wallpaper.

Preparation

All of our wallpapers should be applied by pasting the walls rather than the paper. Prepare wall by removing all traces of dirt, old wallpaper, or loose paint. Do not hang wallcoverings on any wall with a history of dampness. Fill any cracks and allow to dry before hanging. Absorbent surfaces should be appropriately prepared using a diluted wallpaper adhesive. Sealed walls should be rubbed with sandpaper to create a ‘key’. It is important that the walls are of an even and consistent colour. If they are not then consideration should be given to painting them with an appropriate colourwash. Alternatively, we recommend that walls be ‘lined’ horizontally using a good quality lining paper. Allow this to fully dry.

ROLLS

Hanging Instructions

Ensure the wallpaper is in correct pattern direction prior to hanging. We recommend the use of a quality, light ready-mixed adhesive. Evenly apply the adhesive directly onto the wall using a brush or a short pile emulsion roller. It is not necessary to pre-cut the lengths of paper as it can be applied direct from the roll. Apply the wallcovering to the wall and smooth down with a hanging brush or plastic spatula. Do not overlap. Carefully wipe any excess paste from the face of the paper immediately with a clean damp sponge before it dries.

After hanging 3 lengths inspect to ensure there is no shading or other fault.

Panels

This wallpaper is 68.5cm wide and is supplied trimmed. It is 3m in length; for walls shorter than 3m, the wallpaper will need to be trimmed with a sharp decorating knife during the hanging process. Use lavishly for maximum impact or as picture panels throughout a space to create a sense of joy.

PANELS

Hanging Instructions

We recommend the use of a quality, light ready mixed adhesive. Evenly apply the adhesive directly onto the wall using a brush or a short pile emulsion roller, then apply the first section of wallcovering to the wall, smooth down with a good quality hanging brush. If your wall is shorter than 3m in height, trim either the top or bottom of each wallpaper panel accordingly with a sharp decorator’s knife. Apply the paste to the next section of the wall and apply the second panel with the edges butted together, making sure to match the design, (pre- trimming just down the edge of the printed image will help with alignment during the overlapping stage). Carefully wipe any excess paste from the face of the paper immediately with a clean damp sponge before it dries.

After hanging 3 lengths inspect to ensure there is no shading or other fault.

Wallpaper in bathrooms

We do not advise using the wallpaper in a bathroom with a shower, bath, or the use of any excess water. Additionally, our wallpaper has not been tested with sealants, resin, or vinyl to make it water resistant, and therefore we are unable to recommend that the wallpaper would react well to any treatments.
